Tears of the Saints Missions Video

Looking through resources to encourage the American church to international missions, I ran across this video and was immediately moved.

Missions is War

I've spent some time this week looking at the believer's call to international missions. This video may be one of the most powerful spoken messages I've ever heard in that direction.

What does that draw up from your heart?

The Wonderland of Lights

Today, I'm hitting the road again. I'll leave Austin for a couple of days and drive to Marshall, TX in the good ol' Ark-La-Tex Region. I know this area very well.

I grew up in Garrison, only about an hour south of Marshall. I graduated from East Texas Baptist University in Marshall after only 5 years. I also spend 4 years on staff at First United Methodist Church in Marshall.

Needless to say, there are numerous relationships that mean a lot to me. That's why I'm so excited to share my heart and the vision of thatchurchinaustin.com with them.

Would you please be in prayer with me that I can share this vision clearly? We believe that God has enabled and burdened certain individuals to give to this vision. I pray that those individuals would be led to join us in this mission.

New Series - Famous Last Words

What are you doing today? If you're in the area, why would you NOT be at the PAC in Kyle today? The Connection Church is starting a new series, Famous Last Words, and you should totally be here.

Come find me and introduce yourself. We'd love to see you there.

No Perfect People Allowed

Everyone who knows me well knows how much I read.  Rarely, if ever, will you see me without a book of some sort in my hands.  Unfortunately, I'm much better at reading them than I am for reviewing them.

I read No Perfect People Allowed by John Burke recently.  In it, he not only convinces the reader to have a community of acceptance in the church (and I mean that in an absolutely positive manner), but he also helps the reader begin to think about how to create such an atmosphere at their specific church.

By far, my favorite portion of the book were the numerous stories of changed lives in Austin, TX that could have only occurred through a church that absolutely welcomes those distrusted or shunned by a large number of churches.

LOST Season 4 Finale

People have asked me to explain why I still watch LOST. Please allow me to simply refer to this finale. Most sit-coms and television dramas are in a B-league in comparison to Hollywood blockbusters. Their budget isn't as big, their storylines aren't as well put together. But once in a blue moon you get a television drama that wouldn't work as a movie, because Hollywood couldn't tie it in a neat little bow immediately before the credits roll. LOST is the best television on - well - television. Anyway, with that in mind, let me run you down the list on our TIVO's Season Manager.
1. LOST
2. House M.D.
3. Bones
4. Grey's Anatomy
5. Private Practice
6. So You Think You Can Dance
7. Saturday Night LIve
8. Survivorman
9. Man vs. Wild
and multiple kids shows towards the bottom including my personal favorite 10. Phineas and Ferb

Did you watch the LOST finale? What did you think? What else do you watch?

I'm still an original...
